Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main purpose of the Hurricane Bead Seating Tank?

A bead seater is a crucial piece of shop equipment for servicing vehicle tires. It delivers a high-intensity burst of air into a tire cavity, which helps align its beads and ensures a proper fit on the wheel rim. The tank is what holds the compressed air before the air compressors blast it into the inside of the tire, and having the right capacity for the vehicle being worked on is very important. This ensures the tire receives the proper pressure to inflate it enough to make sure the beads make proper contact with the rim flange for an optimized fit.

What kind of safety gear should be worn when using a bead seater?

Because you’ll be working with a potentially dangerous compressed air tank, it’s necessary to wear personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of injury. These include eye protection, hearing protection and non-slip shoes. Make sure the safety gear you wear meets all OSHA and ANSI standards.

What precautions should be taken when using the tank?

OSHA 1910.77 standards outline what steps should be taken to prevent safety incidents when using a compressed air tank like these. Among the many precautions that should be taken include keeping bystanders at least 20 feet away, never touching the tire while it is being blasted and fully discharging the tank when the work is finished.

What PSI should the tank be filled to when seating tires?

A bead seating tank typically should be filled to a minimum of 40 PSI, with the maximum safe operating pressure at 155 PSI. Most tires can be seated at a pressure of 80 to 100 PSI. In most cases, these tanks have a safety pop-off set for 165 PSI to prevent overloading.

Can these bead seating tanks be modified or repaired using non-factory parts?

No, attempting to modify the tank in any way can lead to damage to the equipment or serious injuries. Using non-OEM replacement parts also should not be done, as this can result in a potentially dangerous situation.
